Rebuilding A Business Intelligence Team

On April 29th I took on a new position as the lead of the Business Intelligence Team for a local money management firm. To make the story a bit more interesting, I had worked for the same firm five years earlier as the supervisor of their database group. Since that time the firm’s assets have contracted substantially, losing roughly 60% of its value and the systems department has gone through a major management shift. In a one year period three out of five of the systems division’s managers chose to “pursue new opportunities” and a new CIO took the reins.

Additionally, in the six months prior to my arrival, the four person business intelligence team went from being a tight knit group, being loyal to their manager to having an almost passive aggressive stance, fighting him at every turn.

Hmmmm. Why did I take this job?
